The Agua Fria Union High School District serves high school students in Avondale, Arizona, as well as Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, and Waddell. The school district has five schools (Agua Fria, Millennium, Desert Edge, Verrado, and Canyon View) and was established in 1955. The high schools teach 9th through 12th grades.
Agua Fria High School (AFHS)
AFHS was the first school in the
Agua Fria Union High School District, located in Avondale, Arizona. It has continued to modernize with new expansions through the years and offers students a full academic experience, along with numerous athletic and fine arts programs. It also has an Air Force Junior ROTC program.
Millennium High School (MHS)
MHS began in 1979 with just a freshman campus. It gradually expanded to serve 10-12th grades as well. Among its offerings are Agricultural Science, Culinary Arts, Computer Maintenance and Repair, Animal Science, Advertising and Marketing, Business Management, and Healthcare.
Desert Edge High School (DEHS)
DEHS was the first high school in Arizona to become
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver-certified and only the fourth in the United States. The high school opened in 2002 with space for 1,800 students.
Verrado High School (VHS)
VHS opened in 2006 and follows in the footsteps of DEHS as far as being a “Green” school, committed to environmental stewardship. This high school offers “four houses within the school” aimed at providing “experiential learning opportunities” for students. Its career programs include Pre-Engineering and Television Production.
Canyon View High School (CVHS)
CVHS is a newer high school that is scheduled to be open in fall 2006. CVHSis located in Waddell and everyone is excited about brining a new school to this area. CVHS will be structured in a format for smaller learning communities.
